Turkey’s mainstream media portal Hurriyet Daily News claims Antalya hosts only 55 tourists from Russia in February 2016
On 29 February 2016, Hurriyet Daily news, the oldest English-language daily in Turkey, published a news story about Russian tourist arrivals in Turkey and relayed the claim of Recep Yavuz, the head of the Antalya Urban Council Tourism Work Group, saying “Antalya hosted just 55 Russian tourists in February.”1
However, on 1 March 2016, Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism released a declaration and refuted the claim made by Recep Yavuz.
The ministry reported that 22,106 tourists came to Turkey from Russia in January 2016 and almost 5,000 of them visited Antalya.
In addition to that, the Ministry of Culture of Turkey declared to the public that it is impossible to make any news about tourism statistics in February 2016, because the statistics have not been released yet.2
