Claim: AK Party media relations head wishes Israeli victims’ death
The Jerusalem Post claimed that Turkey’s ruling party’s official tweets she “wished the Israeli victims’ death after Saturday’s Istanbul suicide blast”
On 19 March 2016, the Jerusalem Post claimed that “an official from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling AK Party tweeted she wished the Israelis who were said to be wounded in Saturday’s Istanbul suicide blast were dead. The Jerusalem Post claimed so-called official of the AK Party named Irem Aktas is the “head of the party’s media relations and women’s outreach department."1
However, it was later found out that Aktas is not the head of media relations but a junior member of the AK Party to be discharged. Shortly after Aktas’ tweet, Hatice Yucel, the chairman of the Women’s Branch of the AK Party’s Eyup district organization in Istanbul, tweeted that the district organization of Eyup took the necessary steps to discharge the member and the views shared by Aktas do not reflect the party’s views.2
