On 24 April 2018, The Financial Times published an article titled “Turkey’s corporate debt burden sparks jitters on economy.” However, the article gives an inaccurate estimate about the percentage of the corporate debt to the gross domestic product (GDP) in Turkey.
On 21 April 2018, the US Department of State released the 2017 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices. The report on Turkey included several factual mistakes and provided incomplete information.

Claim: The president has a greater say in appointing judges to the highest judicial board in the country
Turkish people went to the ballot boxes on 16 April 2017 and voted in favor of moving to a presidential system. Most media outlets, however, often present the content of the constitutional change that introduced a presidential system inaccurately. Here we have gathered top five false claims together.
1) Claim: “The president will dissolve the parliament”
This is probably the most widespread false claim. However, in fact the president can already dissolve the parliament at the moment whereas the bill foresees the cancellation of this prerogative.
Turkey launched the Operation Olive Branch together with the Free Syrian Army (FSA) on 20 January 2018 in Syria’s Afrin region in order to ensure its border security and eradicate the YPG. There are Kurdish groups affliated with the FSA such as the Kurdish Hawks Brigade and Mashaal Tammo Brigade and they participated in the Olive Branch Operation.
On 12 April 2018, Foreign Policy published an article titled “Turkey’s Double ISIS Standard,” written by Ahmet Sait Yayla and Colin P. Clarke. However, the article includes numerous factual mistakes and inconsistencies regarding Turkey’s policy against DAESH.
Claim: “Turkey helped DAESH rising in the first place”
On 8 April 2018, an article written by Uzay Bulut was published on Gatestone Institute. The article alleges that Turkey is assisting DAESH and does nothing to protect the Yazidis. The article reads “Ankara does nothing to prevent ISIS (DAESH) from selling Yazidi women and children in Turkey.”
On 5 April 2018, an article written by Patrick Cockburn was published in London Review of Books. In the article, the author criticizes Turkey’s Operation Olive Branch against the YPG in the Afrin region of Syria. However, the article includes several inconsistencies and factual mistakes.
On 2 April 2018, The Jerusalem Post has published an article titled “Erdogan’s Hypocrisy,” written by the Editorial Board of the newspaper.
