Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hami Aksoy, responded to the allegations of Dendias, Greece's Foreign Minister, concerning Turkey in a newspaper interview.

Aksoy said in the statement, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias’ claims in an interview published on Eleftheros Typos newspaper on 11 October were false claims.

Stating that exploratory talks halted over Greece's request in 2016, Aksoy said "It is aimed to mislead the public opinion to claim that the cut off was originated from Turkey. Likewise, the claim that dealt with a single issue in exploratory talks does not reflect the truth. The aim of these negotiations is resolving issues connected with each other between the two countries."

Spokesperson Aksoy continued his statements as follows:

“On the other hand,Turkey was not the country who opened the Maraş coastline to the public, it was the government of KKTC. The Greek minister's description of this step as a violation of UN Security Council resolutions and the claim that the people who swim here threaten international security is a ridiculous claim, far from serious.Greece’ effort to try to use EU as a trump card against Turkey instead sincere dialogue with Turkey to solve issues in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, is fruitless. Greece must now understand that threats and blackmail haven’t worked.

The fact that Greece to say they were ready to dialogue with us, while keeps to continue to engage in actions and activities that increase tension, is an example of insincerity.

As a matter of fact, the exercise to take place on October 28, 2020, which was announced by Turkey in the Aegean Sea and was criticized by Minister Dendias, is in response to the exercise to be placed on October 29 that Greece previously announced in violation of the 1988 Athens agreement.

Despite our warnings, Greece's arrangement of exercises on the Republic day of Turkey is an approach to devoid of good intentions.

Our country will resolutely continue to protect both its own rights and the rights of Turkish Cypriots in the Aegean and the Mediterranean.”
