France 24 published an article on 16 October 2020 “Turkish ultranationalists storm Armenian neighbourhoods in Istanbul”.

France 24 published an article on 16 October 2020 “Turkish ultranationalists storm Armenian neighbourhoods in Istanbul”. In the article, there are 3 factual mistakes arise on the claims;

Claim 1: France 24 claimed that On October 5th of 2020, a convoy of Turkish ultra-nationalists stormed the Kurtulus neighborhood, home to a large Armenian population. The editor added a photo where to prove the claim is picked from a twitter account and there seems the cars are draped with Azeri and Turkish flags.

The factual mistake is, the photo collected from the twitter account captured from a video where the cars draped with Azeri and Turkish flags are for to show support to Azerbaijan of Turkey against Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The twitter account holder tagged the video as “ #azarbaijantogether ” as well as saying “Right now Osmanbey”.

Claim 2: France 24 made onother factual mistake in order to mislead public opinion as saying “…the Bakirkoy neighbourhood, which is largely Armenian…”.

According the official records, there are 30 thousands of Armenian-Turkish citizens registered in the district, considering Bakirkoy’s 230 thousands total population, it means 13 %.

Claim 3: In the article it is stated the location as “Kurtulus neighborhood, home to numerous Armenians.”

It is a fact that Kurtulus is a neighbourhood where numerous Armenian-Turkish citizens lives in, but the factual mistake is; the video is not captured in Kurtulus. As the owner of the twitter account declares, the place is Osmanbey which is two neighbourhood away from Kurtulus through Bomonti.
