International media on failed coup in Turkey - 2

Fact-Checking Turkey lists some reactions from international media on failed coup attempt in Turkey on 15 July 2016

On the night of 15 July 2016, FETO-linked soldiers launched a coup attempt, killed 246 people, 179 of which were civilians, and wounded thousands. They also bombed Turkey’s Grand National Assembly several times along with many other state buildings and tried to assasinate President Recep Tayyip Erdogan but missed him by minutes. The international media mostly supported the coup plotters and put the blame on President Erdogan for "bringing the coup on himself". Here is a list of the examples:

  1. The Guardian published a news story in which the terror organization leader Fethullah Gulen claimed the coup is "staged by Erdogan"

  2. Ranj Alaaldin wrote in the Guardian that the “Aftermath of Turkey coup attempt will be bloody and repressive”

  3. France 24 released a news video in which the terror organization leader and the suspected coup mastermind Fethullah Gulen claimed the coup attempt was "staged"

  4. Ben Shapiro tweeted that overthrowing Erdogan in Turkey "would be a boon to the world and the population"

  5. Richard Haas claimed that Turkey's leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan is non-democratic just like the coup and whether the US will support or oppose the coup is a dilemma for itself

  6. The Independent Editorial wrote that Turkey's future is not optimistic after President Erdogan survived the coup

  7. Sputnik International published a news story on "claims that Erdogan staged his own coup" and shared it with the hashtag #TheaterNotCoup

  8. When the failed coup attempt in Turkey just started, a commentator on CNN said that who has control is unclear

  9. 9GAG shared the pictures of pro-coup soldiers beaten by the people they opened fire on and said that they were tortured under police supervision, whereas in fact the police protected surrendered soldiers from the angry crowd

  10. Guy Taylor in The Washington Times wrote that “Turkey’s Erdogan uses military coup buzz to expand powers, curb dissent”

  11. A Kurdish academic (@Haw_Kurdy) used a picture from 2014 in her deleted tweet as evidence to claim that anti-coup protesters "executed" pro-coup soldiers
