On 28 June 2016, Jack Khoury had an article published in Israeli newspaper Haaretz in which he claimed that a deal signed on 27 June 2016 between Turkey and Israel, aimed at normalizing the bilateral relations, restoring the ties between them and easing the Israeli blockade on Gaza, has not satisfied the Palestinians.

RSF (Reporters sans Frontieres - Reporters without Borders) claimed that its Turkey representative Erol Onderoglu was arrested for participating in a campaign in support of Kurdish media outlets.1 However, Onderoglu and two other Turkish writers were detained for making and permitting terror propaganda after they became the chief editors of Ozgur Gundem, a mouthpiece daily for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Several news outlets claim LGBTI rights are in jeopardy in Turkey on the eve of the 2016 gay pride parade. Indeed, the march this year has been banned by authorities due to safety concerns. This year’s gay pride was not allowed because there are groups threatening violence against marchers, and to ensure the safety of people attending the parade would be difficult, said the police.
 

Claim: HDP members jailed for supporting Kurdish rights

On 8 June 2016, Simon Tisdall published an article in The Guardian in which he claimed that some members of Turkey’s Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) were jailed for advocating Kurdish rights.1
Leading HDP members and supporters have frequently faced police intimidation and prosecutions, and some have been jailed over their verbal support for Kurdish rights.
